GOD PLEASE DIRECT MY EYES TO JESUS

Have you ever felt that God is not enough?   I mean, we know HE IS!  But have you ever felt like He is not?   Have you ever felt unsatisfied, even though you KNOW He loves you, He is for you and He works all things for good, but you find yourself feeling “this is not enough”?

I was there and realized this was rooted in not feeling enough.  I had started the Bible Recap, a plan to read through the Bible in a year.  It’s so great and I was on track, until I started struggling with some things and I couldn’t engage God’s word as usual.  I read without understanding, I was distracted; I got way behind and decided to pause.  I still spent time with God, and read His word here and there; but I couldn’t engage the plan as I had set out to.

So I approached God with 100% honesty.   “It’s hard to read your word.  I just don’t understand all these details.  I get bored.  Please transform my heart.  Give me a heart FOR you, your word, your plans.  I want to give you more of me.  I want to do all of my life WITH you!”.

A friend suggested to get back to reading God’s word, because the goal is not do it in a year, but to get to know His character.   Thing is I hate being behind and I also hate not doing things right. But I heard Lorisa Miller from Upperroom say this:  “There is a love that is beyond obedience.  There is a place of love that gives.  What does it look like to give passed what He is asking of you? He doesn’t need anything from you.  But He does have a desire and when you find yourself the object of God’s affection, you’ll do anything.  He doesn’t need you, but He wants you”

I know God doesn’t want my perfection, and neither should I.  Gosh, to take the eyes off of me and how I’m measuring up to focus them on Jesus doesn’t come naturally.  But I am free in Him! (And so are you!).  So friend if you are in similar space, let me remind you…. It’s not about what we do, but about what He did for me and YOU!   He meets us exactly where we are at.

We are free to follow Him imperfectly, we are the object of His affection and He is the one who leads and transforms us; we just need to let Him. Let’s set our eyes on Him.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
